About

Oh, hey, hi there, it is me, Krystina

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading up about me and what I’m doing a little bit.  I’m a chameleon working on many different projects right now. I am a mom of a crazy little boy, a small business owner, a student, and I have just started my podcast and youtube channel about messed up historical and mythological stories.

About my education

In 2010, I began my first BA degree in English Literary Studies at the University of South Florida.  I graduated there in 2014 with honors.  While I was studying, I had a strong focus on Fantasy Literature and Shakespeare (I literally took every Shakespeare class that was offered except for one– something that still haunts me to this day).  For those of you who aren’t literature nerds who have studied literary theory, there are over twenty ways to interpret a piece of literature ranging from gender theory, formalism, reader-response criticism and, my favorite, historical/biographical.  No matter what I was reading, I would always be interested to know what was going on not only in the author’s life when they wrote it, but also what was going on in the world.  Which led me to write my thesis on how J.R.R. Tolkien’s Catholicism, love of fairy tales and mythology, and his overall disillusionment with industrial progress led to one of the greatest sagas ever written, The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

Once I graduated, I floated around for a few years.  I became a teacher and enjoyed what I did, but I really missed being a student.  And then I had a random conversation with someone at a local brewery about the ale wives of 16th and 17th century England and how they possibly led to the tropes of witches.  This led me to want to learn more about these weird historical stories that seem to get overlooked which opened up a whole new world for me.

So in 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to begin my second degree in history.  I volunteered with a organization, PRINT, on campus that was researching and transcribing 17th and 18th century letters from prominent, but not well-known, people in colonial America and fell in love with pouring over primary sources and the hunt for information.  And that’s where I am now.  I have taken an internship with PRINT in Spring of 2021 to dedicate more time to the research and development of some of these people and their projects.

But what about the while Effed Up History thing?

Well, while I love academics and deciphering 300 year old letters and manuscripts, I still have to say, I really have a passion for the weird and messed up stories that have been glazed over.  So, maybe because I seem to like spreading myself super thin and being stressed all the time, I decided to start sharing some of these messed up stories that are in my brain.  Sometimes they are about important people or things that happened in history that no one knows about, which is effed up.  Sometimes they are about really freaking weird mythology, looking at you Zeus.  Sometimes they are about things in history that are absolutely insane, even if it is well known I JUST NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT.  It is going to be a wild ride and I hope you all enjoy it.
